DR. ISAAC WATTS
AN INTERESTING SIDE OF THE STORY...

First of all, thanks for visiting. My name's Tim (AKA Lex James- which is another story!) and I've put this page together to tell you what I know about my family from what I learnt from my late father, John David Appleyard who died in 2011. My father always referred to himself as David.

I didn't meet him until I was around 27 years old but it was well worth it. I'm 54 now as of writing this (2019) and the family history is very interesting in terms of music, creativity and also Isaac Watts, well, to me at least. I'll add more to this page as and when I've got time but I'll at least kick things off with what I already know about my family and being a descendant of the Watts family.

My Father

David was a talented Trumpet player, he first worked in the RAF band, then moving onto the Royal Opera and then for 25 years, Principal Trumpet for the English National Opera - scary stuff and well done!

My Grandparents

Unfortunately I never met my Grandmother, or Grandfather, a great shame to me, which I regret dreadfully, however I have a lot of memorabilia at home which is great! They seemed like they were very cool people! My grandfather, Rev. J.R Appleyard, was a QHC (Queen's Honorary Chaplain) and although I know little about my grandmother, from what I inherited from my late father, she was a very accomplished artist.

MAY ELIZABETH WATTS APPLEYARD

(May Elizabeth Watts Appleyard - nee Marler)

I found this when I was collecting my father's belongings

A TEACUP

INSIDE WAS A NOTE AND A LOCK OF HAIR...

From the note, I can only assume that the "Tea Cup" in the photo had been been in the Watts family for generations. I can't say for sure if Isaac Watts knew of the "Tea Cup", being part of the family but it is very, very interesting and it begs the question where did it originate from?

Also, the lock of hair is a mystery, "to whom does it belong?" is a huge question to be answered.

UNSURE BUT...
I'm not sure if this is correct but it appears that my Grandmother, May Appleyard, was given this pot and wrote the note enclosed and it has been noted that my Father's Great, Great Grandmother, Elizabeth Gould (Nee Watts) was Dr. Isaac Watt's sister. I'm still working on deciphering my Father's Grandmother's surname as it's difficult to read on the note. Any suggestions are welcome!
